Side-by-side comparison of Eureka PowerSpeed vacuum and Shark Rotator vacuum, showing the budget vacuum I returned and the Shark vacuum I bought instead

This Vacuum Made My Kids Cry — I Returned It and Bought This Instead

I wish I were being dramatic — but I’m not.

I turned on the Eureka NEU182B PowerSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner, and within seconds my kids were crying and covering their ears. The noise was that intense. That moment alone told me this vacuum was not built for a real, busy household.

I returned it almost immediately — and what I bought next completely changed my expectations of what a vacuum should be.

This review is not sponsored, not gifted, and not paid for by any brand. It’s based purely on my real experience, and I’m sharing it because I genuinely wish someone had warned me.

The Noise Was Unreal

This vacuum is uncomfortably loud. Not “powerful suction” loud — jet engine taking off loud.

If you live in an apartment, condo, or anywhere with shared walls, this is the kind of noise that would absolutely irritate neighbors. Even in a single-family home, it was overwhelming. Vacuuming should not feel stressful — and this did.

Lightweight… But Cheap-Feeling

Yes, it’s lightweight — but not in a good way.

It felt flimsy, like something that wouldn’t hold up to frequent use. As someone who vacuums often (kids, daily messes, real life), I need something that feels sturdy and reliable. This didn’t.

No Lift-Away Feature (Big Miss)

This one is partially on me — I should’ve checked more carefully — but it ended up being the worst part.

There is no lift-away feature.
Every single time I wanted to use the hose or handheld portion, I had to physically attach it.

That might not sound like a big deal — until you’re a busy mom doing quick cleanups all day. It felt clunky, outdated, and inconvenient.

Who Is This Vacuum Actually For?

If I had to guess:

  • Someone who lives alone
  • In a very small space
  • Who doesn’t vacuum often

But even then, the noise alone makes it a tough recommendation.

Why I Returned It

I couldn’t wait to return it.

Yes, the price was attractive — and I take partial responsibility for that. I should have known that cutting corners on price often means cutting corners on quality.

What I Bought Next — And Why I’m Never Going Back

After returning the Eureka, I bought a Shark Rotator Swivel Pro Complete with PowerFins HairPro, and the difference was immediate.

Yes — it was almost three times the price.
And yes — it was absolutely worth it.

Why the Shark Was a Total Upgrade

  • Lift-away feature (non-negotiable for stairs, couches, baseboards)
  • Swivel steering that actually moves with you
  • Strong suction power without the ear-splitting noise
  • HEPA filtration, which matters in a home with kids and pets
  • Solid, well-built, and clearly designed for real households

Vacuuming stopped feeling like a chore I dreaded and started feeling efficient — which honestly says everything.

Final Thoughts

If you vacuum frequently, have kids, pets, or just value your sanity — don’t cut corners on your vacuum. I tried to save money, and it backfired.

Sometimes spending more upfront really does save you time, frustration, and regret.
