The Striped Accent Chair That Made My Reading Corner Feel Like a Nancy Meyers Movie

The moment I set this blue striped accent chair in my reading corner, it felt like it had always belonged there. Between the timeless ticking stripe fabric, tailored silhouette, and incredibly comfortable seat, it instantly became one of my favorite pieces in my house.

In fact, my biggest complaint is that I only have room for one.

If I had another empty corner, I’d buy a second one tomorrow.

After living with this chair, styling it, reading in it, and watching my cat immediately decide it belonged to him instead, here’s my honest review.

First Impressions

I was hoping this chair would have that classic collected look you see in Nancy Meyers movies and cozy designer homes.

It exceeded my expectations.

The blue ticking stripe feels timeless instead of trendy, and the proportions are perfect. It isn’t oversized, but it still feels substantial enough to make a statement.

The piping gives it a custom upholstered look that makes it feel far more expensive than it actually is.

The fabric also has enough texture to hide everyday wear while still looking crisp and tailored.

Why I Love It

There are plenty of accent chairs that look pretty but aren’t actually comfortable.

This isn’t one of them.

The seat cushion is thick and supportive without feeling stiff, and the back cushion is soft enough that you can actually sit and read for a while.

It’s become one of my favorite places to drink my morning coffee, work on blog posts, or simply sit for a few minutes while the kids are playing.

It also fits beautifully in a smaller space without overwhelming the room.

How I Styled It

One of my favorite things about this chair is how versatile it is.

For this reading corner, I paired it with:

  • a brass martini table
  • soft cream curtains
  • a large Bird of Paradise plant
  • floral wallpaper
  • warm wood tones
  • vintage-inspired books
  • brass lighting

Normally people avoid mixing patterns, but I actually think that’s what makes this space work.

The floral wallpaper and ticking stripe don’t compete with each other because they’re different scales. Instead, they create that layered, collected look that reminds me of homes in 90s romantic comedies.

It’s cozy without feeling cluttered.

Even My Cat Approves

I probably should have known this chair was comfortable because someone claimed it before I really had the chance.

My orange cat has officially decided this is his chair.

If you’ve ever owned a cat, you know they’re usually the toughest furniture critics.

I’d say his review is five stars.

Comfort

This is where I was pleasantly surprised.

Many accent chairs are beautiful to look at but aren’t somewhere you’d actually choose to sit.

This one feels different.

The seat cushion has enough depth to curl up with a blanket and a book, while the arm height is comfortable enough for relaxing without feeling oversized.

I wouldn’t hesitate to use this every day.

Quality

The construction impressed me.

The stripe alignment looks intentional, the piping is clean, and everything feels well made.

Nothing about it feels flimsy or inexpensive.

It has that classic upholstered look that’s hard to find unless you’re spending significantly more.

Cons

Honestly…

I struggled to come up with one.

If I absolutely had to list a downside, it’s that now I wish I had room for two.

My Final Rating

Grade: A+

Furniture doesn’t earn an A+ from me very often.

This one did.

It’s comfortable, beautifully made, photographs well, and instantly elevated my reading corner.

It feels timeless rather than trendy, which means I can see myself keeping it for years.

If you’re looking for an accent chair that feels cozy, classic, and designer-inspired without the designer price tag, I’d absolutely recommend this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the chair comfortable?

Yes. It’s one of the few accent chairs I’ve owned that I’d actually choose to sit in for long periods.

Does the fabric look cheap?

Not at all. The textured ticking stripe and piping give it a much higher-end appearance.

Is it suitable for a small room?

Absolutely. It has a compact footprint while still feeling generous enough to lounge in.

Would you buy it again?

Without hesitation.

If I had another empty corner, I’d already own a second one.

Final Thoughts

I love it!

It made my reading corner feel finished, inviting, and lived in. It’s comfortable enough to use every day, beautiful enough to be the focal point of the room, and timeless enough that I know I’ll still love it years from now.

That’s why it earns an easy A+ from me.
